HEALTH & SAFETY

At TEMPEST, we put health & safety first in order to ensure our team members aren't putting themselves or others in dangerous situations. While everyone in TEMPEST is a member of the Health & Safety Team, and therefore follows the rules of the team, we have two main leaders that make sure everyone is aware of the rules and is following them. Those two leaders are the Safety Captain Audrey Camilleri and the safety mentor doctor Kate Szymanski DO, CMD, FAAFP.

To be in the role of the safety captain, it is important not to call out another team member when they are doing something potentially dangerous, but to explain what they can be doing better. The main objective of TEMPEST and FIRST Robotics as a whole is to teach students skills they can be using for the rest of their lives, and Health and Safety is a major part of that. By teaching, we can ensure our members can each be a valued part of the Health and Safety Team by passing on the information they have been taught to other members in need.

OUR SAFETY DOG-
Naomi

A few years ago, our safety leads came across an issue with kids accidently hurting themselves during robotics. The safety leads asked themselves the question, "How do we prevent kids from putting themselves in these dangerous situations without having to tell them everytime?" That's when Naomi came along, a dog meant to show TEMPEST members to value the safety of everyone and everything around them, and to show them that if even a dog can be safe, they can as well.
